PROCESSING LIQUID PIGMRRT DISPENSER

A new pigment dispenser for injection moulding machines from CP Instrument Co., monitors screw return time in order to programme itself to give a constant addition rate. It is microprocessor controlled, and gives full digital readout, and has provision for more than one pump head to allow dispensing of additional ingredients, such as antistatic agents. The BE 7513 uses a Masterflex peristatic pump head, which ensures that the liquid only contacts the tubing and thus facilitates cleaning when changing colour, and shot capacity is adjustable up to capacity of 114 ml./min., by a thumb wheel switch which controls pump, rotor speed, etc.

PIGMRRT DOSIRGURIT

A pigment dosing and blending unit now available from Spiroflux in the U.K. is said to allow easy cleaning and quicker than normal colour changes, by virtue of a quick-release mechanism which allows easy removal of the dosing unit from the drive system. The company has also introduced the DSM 4 volumetric doser, which incorporates four compartments for materials, which are dosed by a variable speed DC motor driving a screw, and a further mixing unit to ensure homogeneity of the blend.

Windmiller & Holscher and Battenfeld in W. Germany have developed a process for the continuous addition of P.I.B. to LLDPE in the production of stretch film. The P.I.B. is in liquid form, and is injected just in front of the shear section of the extruder screw. The process is said to have economic advantages over the conventional stretch film processes using P.I.B. masterbatches.
