PATENTS Fluid intensifier for a dry gas seal system Applicant: Flowserve Management Co, USA This invention relates to a fluid intensifier for a dry gas seal system, which supplies gas to a mechanical seal. The gas-supply system turns on the gas supply at a pressurised flow-rate at the time of compressor-case pressurisation and remains on during compressor rotation until adequate pressure is reached. The gassupply system’s intensifier comprises pressurised pneumatic cylinders that are connected together to boost, or increase, the pressure of the barrier fluid gas being discharged from the intensifier and supplied to the barrier fluid chamber of the mechanical seal. The intensifier uses a control valve and operating system that includes a fast-acting 5/2-way solenoid valve having a feedback loop connected to a control system which uses a microprocessor to control valve actuation. Seal bushing for an electrical connector Applicant: Tyco Electronics Amp Italia Srl, Italy A seal bushing (1) for an electrical wire (10) forms the subject of this patent. The bushing has a body (2) made from an elastomeric and electrically insulating material that is intended to fit over the end-part of the electrical wire. The body has a smooth cylindrical surface (3), which is adapted to receive, “with interference”, the electrical wire, and a single outer circumferential lip (4) adapted to come into contact (again with interference) with the surface of the internal cavity (6a) of the connector (6), to create a seal

Seals pretreated with atomic oxygen for protection in space Applicant: The University of Akron, USA This invention generally relates to seals and sealing constructs designed to be used in space. Some embodiments cover seals and sealing constructs that have been pretreated with atomic oxygen before they are used in space. Patent number: WO/2014/004794 Inventors: C. Daniels and J. Wasowski Publication date: 3 January 2014

Sealing Technology

Assembly for testing the integrity of a seal Applicant: Wellstream International Ltd, UK An assembly and method for testing the integrity of a sealing ring used on flexible pipe are described by this patent. The method includes locating a first sealing ring, adjacent to a first collar member and a layer of flexible pipe body and energising this ring by urging it towards a primary pressure-retaining end-fitting component (or by urging the pressure-retaining component towards the sealing ring). A second sealing ring is then located adjacent to the first collar member and a second collar member, and is energised in a similar manner to the first ring. The region between the first and second sealing rings is pressurised (through a port extending towards the region) to a predetermined pressure of 5 MPa or greater. Platform seal strip for a turbine blade assembly

Arrangement for creating a joint seal Applicant: Sika Technology Ag, Switzerland This invention relates to a method for producing a product provided with a joint seal. The joint seal is formed from a paste-like sealing material using a drawing-off and smoothing tool. Excess sealing material remaining on this tool is removed by suction during the drawingoff or smoothing process. Patent number: WO/2014/001403 Inventor: M. Buck Publication date: 3 January 2014

to fluids between the cavity of the connector and the electrical wire. The front portion has a cylindrical outer surface (5) that is smaller in diameter than the outer diameter of the outer circumferential lip. On the rear portion there is also a collar (9) adapted to absorb and/or dampen the stresses to which the electrical wire (10) is subjected during installation, or use. Patent number: WO/2014/001468 Inventors: R. Zannini and A. Genta Publication date: 3 January 2014

This invention – detailed by patent WO/2014/001468 – aims to create a seal bushing for an electrical wire. It is of the type that has a body of elastomeric and electrically insulating material, intended to be fitted over an end-part of an electrical wire and mechanically connected to a metal contact that is disposed in an internal cavity of the body of the electrical connector.

Applicant: Siemens Aktiengesellschaft, Germany This invention relates to a platform seal strip, a turbine blade assembly and a gas turbine. It further relates to a method for assembling a turbine blade assembly, for example, a gas-turbine blade assembly. By using the single-piece seal strip inter-seal leakage – for example, between two adjacent blade platforms – can be overcome. This strip includes a transition portion that is located between first and second portions. The width of the transition portion increases from the first to the second portion. Preferably, the width of the transition portion continuously increases from the first portion to the second portion. The accompanying figure provides an illustration of the described platform seal strip (1). It shows the upper side (36), lower side (37), first portion (31) and second portion (32). The width (33) of the first portion (31) is smaller
