ATM network in Saudi Arabia An advanced Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) network is to be installed in Saudi Arabia for Albank Alsaudi Alhollandi. Under the contract Logica will supply the ON/2 retail funds transfer product to run on Stratus fault tolerant hardware. The initial network will consist of 15 NCR 5070 ATMs to be supported by ON/2.

One of the major requirements of the system is that it should support a choice of English or Arabic displays and receipts. ON/2 will decide which type of script is required from information encoded on the magnetic strip on users' cards and will provide assistance to users of the

ATMs via an interactive voice responder. Voice assistance will be in either English or Arabic. In addition to this dual language capacity, the system will provide some advanced facilities that are relatively unusual in Saudi Arabia, such as display of fixed deposit and foreign exchange rates, chequebook requests and transfer between related accounts. The configuration of the system for Albank Alsaudi Alhollandi has been designed to manage different networks of ATMs which are presently offered to corporate customers through inhouse banking facilities. Stock Exchange upgrade The Stock Exchange has ordered MODCOMP communications equipment. Behind this move is the ever-increasing demand on the Stock Exchange'sTOPIC market information service, and the subsequent need for greater system capacity, and availability. TOPIC provides a variety of UK and overseas share price and market information services to around 5 000 users. The system operates on a hierarchical network of MODCOMP 32-bit minicomputers, and has been configured to support around 6 500 users. This microprocessor based subsystem offloads key processing tasks from the central processor to line interface modules. The net effect of this is to allow considerably increased connectivity with no degradation to the performance of the system. Under the TOPIC configuration, a maximum of 1000 terminals can be connected to each MODCOMP processor, using MODCOMP's existing UCS subsystem. DCS has the capability of increasing the network capacity of the system and it is this potential which is being fully analysed by the Stock Exchange.
