Consider this: A new father had just been through the long and tiring birth of his first-born child. What an experience to actually participatehe had been dressed in booties, clothing that looked like pajamas, and, to top it off, a mask. He had been told what to do, what to say, and where to stand. Hospital environments were new to him, but his newborn had been born, the mother was doing well, and now was a time of jubilation. He was tired but exhilarated. His wife had been transferred from the delivery room to the postpartum unit, and the nurse was orienting the couple. She acquainted them with the room’s amenities, described visiting hours, and finished up her information with the mandate, “If you want to hold the baby, you have to put on a cover-up gown.” The nurse then left the room to gather supplies for the mother’s care. When she returned, the father was indeed dressed in a cover-upholding his baby and beaming. She glanced into the bathroom and saw a neatly folded stack of the father’s clothes-including jockey shorts, socks, and shoes!-Submitted by Annette Gupton.
