Godwin Pumps of America acquires Godwin England been designing and building portable pumps for more than 100 years - - with the rental, sales and marketing prowess of GPA, is expected to see significant growth.

Godwin Pumps of America (GPA) manufacturer and rental supplier of portable pumping systems in North and South America, has bought Godwin Pumps Limited (GPL), Quenington, England. John Michael Paz, who assumed the role of GPA president in 1985, will remain as president. Michael Stone, managing director of GPL, will continue in that position, as will the other directors of GPL. Both companies are privately held.

Queen's Awards for Enterprise 2002

Alexander Bridle, who attends the Brook First School, Crawley, is winner out of 6,000 entrants of the eighth 'Today's Engineers Help Us Every Day' national competition tor primary schoolchildren, which was organised by 16 of the UK's professional engineering bodies.

Engineering companies of all sizes are being urged to apply now for the 2002 Queen's Awards for Enterprise. The scheme recognises and rewards exceptional achievements and advances in all areas of British business.

Alexander received his prizes - which include a cheque for £1000 for technology equipment for his school. The competition challenged five-to-seven year olds to draw or paint a picture of either an engineer at work or something designed by engineers that has helped them or someone they

know. Its aim was to make children aware that engineering; science and technology play a major part in every aspect of our lives and are also creative and fun. Alexander's entry illustrates a range of energy exploration technologies from oil rigs to coal mines that provide us with the power we use every day.

Any type of business unit can apply for a Queen's Award in one or more of three categories: International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development. The minimum requirements are that entrants employ at least two people, be based in the UK and be high achievers in their field.

There is no limit to the number of Awards that can be made in any year. The deadline for next year's Awards is 31 October 2001.
