The essential mission of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) is to promote liver research and to improve the treatment of liver disease throughout the world. As an active advisor to the European/National Health authorities, EASL aims to raise public awareness in liver disease and attempts to fulfil its mission by forging friendships and linkages amongst hepatologists around the world. This is mainly done through its yearly Annual Meeting and its many educational programs provided both in Eastern European and developing countries. EASL works through a large range of scientists and has given rise to many international clinical trials and research collaborations in liver disease for the benefit of patients all over the world. EASL's aim of involving young scientists and hepatologists in its activities, to stimulate their active contribution and to support their research, has been instrumental in its success. Throughout its history, EASL has endeavoured to raise the awareness of and to stimulate the interest in liver disease. To this end EASL has been fortunate to have attracted an ever growing number of experts and sponsors concerned with the health and well-being of individuals all over the world. Our work is never finished and we invite all those who wish to take up this challenge to join EASL and become part of our vision.
