Mines 813088 ENGINEERING STUDY OF STRUCTURAL GEOLOGIC FEATURES OF THE HERRIN (NO 6) COAL AND ASSOCIATED ROCK IN ILLINOIS. VOLUME 1 - SUMMARY REPORT Krausse, H F; Damberger, H H; Nelson, W J USBM OFR 96 (1)-80, June 1979, 67P Reports a 3-year investigation by detailed mapping in mines, supplemented by regional computer mapping using drill-hole data, close rathe photogrammetry, physical testing of core samples, and clay mineralogical investigations of roof material. The objectives of this study were (i) to identify and describe geologic conditions that influence roof stability, (2) to relate roof performance to the geologic structure by detailed study within selected mines, (3) to present information on areal distribution of cc~parable geologic conditions that influence roof stability, (4) to compile from literature and files geotechzdcal data that pertain to roof stability, (5) to collect samples frem study areas by diamond drilling, (6) to show how to recognize, both in mines and in diamond drill cores, the various geologic features that influence roof stability, and (7) to propose areas of future research on the subject. 813097 STABILITY OF SHAllOW ~i~VNELS AND UNDERGROUND OPENINGS IN COHESIVE MATERIAL Davis, E H; Gunn, M J; Mair, R J Geotechnlque, V30, N4, Dec 1980, P397-~16 The paper considers three different shapes of shallow underground opening relevant to turmelling and upper and lower bound stability solutions are derived for collapse and undrained conditions. Solutions are also derived for assessment of the risk of blow-out failure caused by excessively high fluid pressures. Conditions are considered under which local collapse can occur independent of the cover above the tunnel. 813098 DEFORMATIONS AND PORE PRESSURES IN THE VICINITY OF A PRECAST, SEGMENEED, CONCRETE-LINED TUNNEL IN CLAY Palmer, J H L; Belshaw, D J Can Geotech J, V17, N2, May 1980, P174-184 Case study of tunnel instrumentation and monltering at Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
