ANNOUNCEMENT

Best Paper Award Pascal Koiran, Ecole Normal Superieure de Lyon, has won the Journal of Complexity’s Best Paper Award for 1996 for his paper, “Hilbert’s Nullstellensatz Is in the Polynomial Hierarchy.” The paper appeared in the December 1996 issue of the Journal. The Awards Committee consisted of Stefan Heinrich and Steve Smale. The Award was presented at the Foundations of Computational Mathematics Conference in Rio de Janeiro on January 8, 1997. The Best Paper Award carries a prize of $3000 and a certificate. Pascal Koiran is the first winner of this annual award. Joseph F. Traub Editor-in-Chief
