Bibliography of Inventory Literature Vols I,II and III I.S.I.R, 1988, 72 + 144 + 115 pages.

46 papers presented at a conference in 1986. There has been no effort to divide the contributions in any obvious way except alphabetically by the first author. This makes it difficult to identify any subject that might interest a potential reader. There is no index and hence the effort required to detemline whether there is anything worthwhile will deter all but the most determined researcher.

This Bibliography has appeared in 3 volumes: Inventories in the National Economy (401 references), I n v e n t o r y M a n a g e m e n t ( 7 6 4 r e f e r e n c e s ) , Mathematical Models of Inventories(611 references). It would seem that each reference to a publication which is listed in alphabetical order of author (in English only from 1980 to 1986) appears in one volume. The volumes have a set of classifications e.g.72 Work in Progress. A paper will be assigned the appropriate number and the also number of the paper listed against the classification. In addition there is a subject index. Although the period of cover is limited it is intended to keep the list up to date. The index is likely to be of value to anyone wishing to track down references by title only. Machielsen, K.C.P.

Numerical Solution of Optimal Control Problems with State Constraints (Tract 53) CWL 1988, Df133.00, 214 pages. A highly theoretical book which leads to a numerical method for the problem. It is an iterative descent method which solves a sub-problem with a quadratic objective function in order to determine the direction of search. Some numerical experience is given. Winter, G.

Business and the Environment This verbally argued book seeks to develop from organisational dynamics and design a theory of corporate Strategy. It is not theory in a mathematical sense but merely a description of how change might be explained. There is very little real data or models of an OR nature.
