(1) (Chirurgie Maxillo-Faciale, Hospices Civils) (2) (Centre de Traumatologie) (3) (Cole d’ingenieurs, Strasbourg, France) The use of malleable small screw-on plates (S.S.P.) in sub-apical position and without compression is demonstrated through a multidisciplinary approach as the most successful and simplest method for mandibular osteosynthesis. Among other biomechanical, mathematical and clinical experimentations, the authors stress the photoelastic study of mandibular body fractures fixed by S.S.P. and the strain evaluation by extensometric gauges in vitro and in vivo.
The results have enabled substantial reduction of that empiricism which too often directs the choice of medical therapeutics and promotion of a scientificatly worked out material well adapted to clinical use. BIOMECHANICAL
