M. N~VE DE MI~VERGNIES, P. VAN ASSCHE a n d J. VERVIER, (editors), Nuclear structure study with neutrons (Proceedings o f the International Conference o n the Study o f N u c l e a r Structure with N e u t r o n s , A n t w e r p 19-23 July 1965. ( N o r t h - H o l l a n d Publishing Co., A m s t e r d a m , 1966. 588 p., 120 s) T h e s e are nicely edited a n d printed proceedings o f a conference held in the traditional style with invited speakers a n d rapporteurs. T h e b o o k also contains 200 abstracts o f short contributions o f which only a few were presented at the conference. A l t h o u g h a valuable reference book, it is n o t likely that m a n y individuals will feel t e m p t e d to pay the price for it. Some o f the material is already out-of-date or is published elsewhere in m o r e detail, a n d the 80 pages o f abstracts are not too exciting reading. A b o o k for the library shelf. O. N a t h a n L. S. TONG, Boilin9 heat transfer and two-phase flow (Wiley, L o n d o n , 1966. xiii-242 p., 105 s) U p to 1965 a b o u t 5000 papers have been published o n Boiling Heat Transfer a n d T w o - p h a s e Flow. It is estimated t h a t a further 5000 papers will be published during the next 5 years. These figures indicate better t h a n m a n y words the m a g n i t u d e o f development work in this field, which is being carried o u t in laboratories t h r o u g h o u t the world. Every effort to s u m up these achievements in order to obtain a general up to data survey o f the field m u s t be received with interest. This b o o k is a valuable contribution to this end. T h e b o o k emphasizes the boiling crisis (critical heat flux or b u r n o u t ) a n d flow instability, a n d is useful mainly to the designers o f boiling equipment. T h e first five chapters covering Pool Boiling, H y d r o d y n a m i c s o f T w o P h a s e Flow, Pressure D r o p o f T w o Phase Flow a n d Flow Boiling serve however as an i n t r o d u c t i o n to the theory o f boiling crisis a n d flow instability. Further, 415 recent references are listed, which give a valuable additional collection o f information. Therefore, people interested in this field for reasons other t h a n design m a y also find that this b o o k is an excellent reference. H. Abel-Larsen
