Wurzeloberflachenkaries bei Patienten mit Parodontalerkrankungen. Zusammenhang mit der individuellen Mundhygiene und der parodontalen Entzundung (Root face caries in patients with periodontal diseases: associations between oral and periodontal hygiene.) Raetzke P. The purpose of this study was to determine whether plaque scores and severity of inflammation could serve as indicators of susceptibility to root-surface caries in patients with periodontal disease. Pocket depths and plaque and sulcus bleeding index values were recorded for 153 patients with gingival recession. Seventy-eight of these patients had one or more carious or restored root surfaces. Comparisons of the data obtained from the patients with and without root-surface caries and restorations failed to reveal any significant differences. It is concluded that factors such as food preferences, the indigenous microflora and the degree of cemental mineralization may play a decisive role in the development of caries in root surfaces (1 1 references) W. Using an infrared camera structural alterations have been demonstrated in the enamel of extracted human teeth (n = 100) following applications of dichlorodifluromethane (CCI,F,) and solid carbon dioxide (dry ice). While touching enamel with a small piece of plastic sponge sprayed with CC&F, does not cause alterations in enamel if the time of application is limited to 1 s, cracks may occur when such applications are extended to 3 s or more. The materials were applied to enamel and dentine with a special contouring device, and either stored for 3 or 21 d in water (37°C) or thermocycles between 4°C and 65°C Without etching, the bond to dentine was stronger than to enamel. Etching resulted in an increase in the bond strength to enamel. This effect seemed to be due to mechanical retention rather than to chemical bonding of the primer.
