Oil & gas

Brazil – a strategic oil & gas location With the discovery of extensive new oil reserves off the Atlantic coast, Brazil is becoming an increasingly important location for the oil & gas industry and its suppliers. This, combined with the presence of one of its biggest customers, is why one company has located its facilities in Jundiaí, north of São Paulo. Here we see what types of packages are in demand.

ulzer Pumps’ presence in South America and South Africa is consolidated as one business region, with headquarters in Jundiaí, São Paulo, Brazil. The region has two factories: one in Brazil and one in South Africa. Following extensive investment, the site in Jundiaí has become one of its primary development, manufacturing and distribution centres. It also holds a strategic position within the division as a supplier of finished components and castings from its own foundry. The company’s manufacturing history in Brazil goes back to 1948, when a new factory was

opened in São Bernardo do Campo, a municipality at the southern edge of greater São Paulo, Brazil’s biggest city. In 1976, a second site was inaugurated as a foundry in Jundiaí. The plant consolidation plan resulted in large investments and the Jundiaí site became a strategic centre of development, manufacturing and distribution. Nearly 700 people in various positions are needed to support the activities at Jundiaí and its affiliated service centres and sales offices in Brazil and Argentina. In a privileged geographical location, Jundiaí can be considered an attractive area for both

business and employees, with easy access by road or air. It is served by three airports located in Campinas and São Paulo.

Extensive new oil reserves The Brazilian government has stated that the extensive new oil reserves discovered off the Atlantic coast (Pre-Salt Province) could turn the country into one of the biggest oil producers in the world. In alignment with that, Sulzer Brazil, which provides engineered pump packages for the oil and gas, hydrocarbon processing, power generation, water and general industries, has launched

a product development centre in Jundiaí, to serve one of its largest customer, Petrobras, as well as independent oil companies’ needs. The company’s success in the oil and gas industry is based on providing reliable high-quality equipment – the products are designed, manufactured, and tested in-house. Sulzer Brazil has its own foundry which produces standard and engineered pump parts, such as impellers made of specifically designed alloys. In-house competence allows it to respond to the customer’s requirements quickly and efficiently.

Supplying Petrobras Sulzer Pumps is a long term partner of the Brazilian international energy company Petrobras. With locations in 29 countries, it is one of the largest companies in the southern hemisphere, and indeed the world. Sulzer Brazil has been providing pump packages to Petrobras for most of its platforms, refineries and pipelines in Brazil. The most recent are: P-58 & P-62 FPSO (float

The development of the diesel-hydraulic driven pumping unit for firefighting on offshore platforms and FPSO vessels has further strengthened its market position, and Petrobras has awarded Sulzer Brazil one of its ‘Best Performance Company of 2010’ prizes. Contact: www.sulzerpumps.com
