Hitachi Cable expands Hall sensors
Filtronic Solid State works to ISO 14001
IN r e s p o n s e to a growing d e m a n d for GaAs Hall sensors, Hitachi Cable has a n n o u n c e d that it is increasing its p r o d u c t i o n capacity at the Hitaka Works Semiconductor Factory, Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. By March, p r o d u c t i o n capacity will e x c e e d 100 million Hall sensors p e r annum, says Hitachi. Two kinds of Hall sensors are m a n u f a c t u r e d in the world, the GaAs type and the InSb type. Hitachi Cable began mass p r o d u c t i o n o f GaAs Hall sensors seven years ago as an application product from GaAs wafers already being
FILTRONIC Solid State ( N e w t o n Aycliffe, UK) is working towards the ISO 14001 certification o f its environmental managem e n t system. Filtronic Solid State is already ISO 9001 compliant. Filtronic Solid State's Manager of Environmental Health Safety and Facilities, Kerrie Romanow, said that, "We believe that the protection of the environment is an integral part of our operations and w e are p r o u d to a n n o u n c e that formal certification by UL is expected in the first haft of 2000". As an environmentally conscious business, Filtronic Solid State is c o m m i t t e d to the following environmental policy objectives: • Comply with current federal, state and local regulations
manufactured. Hall sensors are widely used for brushless DC m o t o r s operating at r o o m temperature, such as office automation equipment and h o m e e n t e r t a i n m e n t systems. Hitachi Cable is continuously improving GaAs Hall sensors and paving the way for n e w applications. For example, owing to their excellent temperature characteristics, GaAs Hall sensors are n o w being w a t c h e d with great interest for automobile applications.
