Announcement

BRITISH COMPOSITES SOCIETY A new Society has been formed to meet the needs of scientists and technologists. It will embrace all aspects of composites from design and manufacture to the scientific understanding of the behaviour of composites. The interests of the Society will cover polymer, metal and ceramic matrix materials. A key factor in forming the Society is the strength of new societies formed in Japan, America and Europe. There is a clear need for a British Society which will interact with comparable groups abroad and provide a means of bringing the rapidly growing composite activities in the UK together. The objectives of the new Society are: (1) To promote the science and technology of composites within the UK. (2) To cooperate with other international bodies and national bodies with similar aims. (3) To encourage education and training in the field of composites. Membership of the Society will be open to personal and company members. The Society is keen to attract a wide cross-section of engineers, scientists, teachers and others who are active in the field of composites. Anyone interested is invited to contact the Secretary or Treasurer of the Society. The Society is at present in the hands of a strong ad hoc Committee which is planning to arrange the first Annual General Meeting for founder members to coincide with the 6th International Conference in Composite Materials, which is being held this year, for the first time in the UK, at Imperial College in July. The ad hoc Committee is: Professor D. Hull FEng Mr F. L. Matthews Dr P. J. Hogg
