Standards and books published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society for Metals (ASM) are distributed in Europe by ATP. On display will be the 1984 annual book of ASTM Standards and the ANSI/ ASTM Boiler Et Pressure Vessel Code.
The UTG600 portable ultrasonic thickness gauge is a redesigned and updated version of the UTG5A model. On the new model, the memory switch and probe sockets have been moved to the front panel where they are more accessible.

Balteau Sonatest On stand 421, Balteau Sonatest is exhibiting its latest range of nondestructive testing equipment, for flaw detection in metals and other engineering materials, including several new models not previously seen at any national exhibition. Two optional add-on interface modules will be of interest to users of Balteau ultrasonic flaw detectors: the Trace Copy 500 interface enables hard copy printing or remote oscilloscope display of pulse-echo signal traces; Immersion Interface Trigger IF510 permits immersion testing with standard detectors. These new small interface modules are connected to the flaw detector by a ribbon cable. Being shown for the first time is the UFD-7A, an updated version of the UFD-7 lightweight, portable pulse-echo type ultrasonic flaw detector. Additional functions with this unit are dual connections for BNC or LEMO probes, connection at the rear for the Trace Copy 500 and Immersion Trigger interfaces, and repositioning of the charging socket on the front panel. Other portable ultrasonic instruments on display include models launched during the past 18 months. The latest of these is the Masterscan 31 O, offering direct digital readout

Until now, the Baltospot range of x-ray generators has centred on two maximum voltage ratings, 200 kV and 300 kV. A 1 60 kV model has now been introduced and will be shown for the first time. Two basic types provide directional or panoramic (360 °) x-ray facilities. The CF5 microprocessor-based control panel for use with these x-ray generators will also be on show.

Bix Industrial Testing During last year Bix Industrial Testing introduced its Cartis (computeraided real-time inspection system), and the company's stand will be devoted to this new development. At present the system is used principally for real-time x-ray measurements. Signals from an image intensifier are converted for display on a video screen where the images, colour or black-and-white, can be manipulated to locate and size defects. Permanent records can be recorded photographically or on video tape.

of tube and wire will be displayed by BIRAL. The equipment may be used on line as well as off line, and is suitable for ferrous and nonferrous tubes that have longitudinal welds or spiral welds. Another instrument from Germany, the displacement measuring system from Micro Epsilon, also uses eddy currents and enables measurement of displacements of less than 1 /~m in hostile environments. A two-channel system allows the thickness of a sheet of conducting material to be continuously monitored.

British Institute of NDT All visitors to the exhibition are invited to call at the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing's stand, where on show will be a display of equipment of the kind in use when the Institute's predecessor bodies were formed in 1954. Another feature will be a competition in which anyone is invited to name faces featured in some photographs taken 30 years ago. All the photographs are of well known personalities in NDT circles. The secretariat staff will be on hand throughout the exhibition to provide information to members and to the general public about the Institute's current activities and interests.
Applications for the technique have so far concentrated on thick-weld radiography and inspection of castings and composites.
