Anchor/Darling Valve Company, the US valve subsidiary of Superior
Group. Anchor/Darling Valve Company manufactures highspecification, custom-engineered valves for nuclear power, process and marine applications. The company is based in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and had 1996 estimated sales of US$21 million. BW/IP already manufactures valves for the nuclear power industry at its Nuclear Products Operation in Los Angeles, Calilornia. Commenting on the acquisition, Bernard G

Rethore, BW/IP's president and chief executive officer said "This acquisition makes strategic sense for BW/IP because Anchor Darling Valve is a quality name that will increase the breadth of our valve offerings to customers in the power, process and marine industries. Further, the acquisition provides the critical mass required to build a focused valve business, while adding to our nuclear base. We see immediate benefits in servicing the large installed base of Anchor/Darling valves and selling our respective valve lines to each other's customers." BW/IP Inc is the parent company of BW/IP International Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary and worldwide supplier of advanced technology fluid transfer and control equipment. Operating in 20 countries, the company manufactures highly engineered pumps and pumping equipment, precision mechanical seals, seal systems and accessories and valves. BW/IP also provides repair, maintenance and diagnostic services through a network of 47 service centres located worldwide. At the recent realignment of BW/IP's debt structure, Rethore indicated that approximately US$125 million was available for acquisitions (see Pump Industry Analyst, December 1996).
