Call for papers IREDU (Institute for Research on Economics and Sociology of Education), Dijon, France, is organizing an international conference in memory of Jean Claude Eicher, IREDU founder. The conference will be held in DIJON, from June 21 to 24, 2006 Conference topic: ‘‘How do recent advances in economic thinking contribute to the major challenges faced by education?’’ The conference will focus on how economics, particularly advances in the recent past (say, 20 years), have attempted to explain, measure and evaluate those challenges, as well as the policies and programs they have spawned. Because the challenges faced by education are diverse across countries, whether they be rich or poor, highachieving or low-achieving, conflicted or peaceful, the theme of the conference is purposefully broad. Thus, we encourage submissions from a variety of perspectives: theoretical, empirical (including experimental and quasiexperimental approaches), institutional, methodological (particularly those to do with history of recent thought) and historical.
