Call for Papers ISRM Symposium on the Design and Performance of Underground Excavations to be held at Cambridge, U.K. in September 1984 This International Symposium sponsored by the International Society for Rock Mechanics and organized by the British Geotechnical Society will be held at the University of Cambridge in the U.K. on 3-6 September 1984. The Symposium will cover all aspects of the design and performance of underground excavations for both civil and mining engineering applications. There will be three major themes: Design--including fundamental research, design philosophies, methods of analysis and determination of design parameters; Constructionaincluding excavation and support, with an emphasis on rock breakage; Performance--including monitoring, back analysis, case studies and evaluations of new or existing analytical methods, design methods and construction techniques. Authors are invited to submit an Abstract of their proposed paper before I June 1983 Abstracts should be sent directly to:
Miss Y Brooks ABSTRACTS: ISRM 1984 SYMPOSIUM Conference Office
The Abstract should be in English, typed on one page, contain between 200-300 words and be prepared as follows: (1) At the top of the page, please type ABSTRACT: ISRM 1984 SYMPOSIUM (2) On the next line indicate to which session subject (Design, Construction or Performance) you consider the paper to be most appropriate. (3) The title of the proposed paper should then follow together with the name(s) of the author(s), and the position(s), affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s). (4) Finally, type in the Abstract. Only Abstracts are required at this stage. Invitations to submit papers will be sent to selected authors before 1 September 1983. The Organising Committee expects to be asking for papers of up to 5000 words (or about 8 pages when typed on the blue-margined sheets). Authors will be asked to submit their papers before l February 1984. Further information on the Symposium and the associated ROCKMEX 84 exhibition can be obtained by requesting Bulletin No. 2 from Miss Brooks at the address given above.
