CALL FOR PAPERS

Management Accounting in the Governmental Sector Guest Editors: Irvine Lapsley and Andrew Likierman

Management Accounting Research is devoting a special issue to the management

accounting practices and developments in the governmental sector (whether central, state or local) of both developed and developing economies. Papers are sought which examine the issues confronting management accounting in this sector-the emphasis is on a public management agenda; an increasing interest in the use of accruals in budgeting and financial reporting; the widening of accounting to embrace performance measures which extend beyond the financial; and all of this in a context of substantive structural changes in the organization and delivery of services. Submissions may take a variety of perspectives: interpretive, critical or modern cost management. The editors are interested in both theoretical and empirical contributions to the debate on how management accounting in government can/should develop in response to these various pressures. If the contribution is based on a single entity, the findings should have wider interest. Potential authors may submit preliminary drafts to either of the co-editors. The closing date for preliminary submissions is 30 March 1999. It is hoped that responses to manuscripts can be made within 3 months, with a view to articles conditionally accepted for publication being returned to authors for any corrections by 30 June 1999. Enquiries on possible submissions and submissions can be addressed to one of the co-editors.
