clude modern diagnostic considerations and present day operative technics. NeedIess to say, this is a vaIuabIe addition to the hospita1 or operating room library. T. S. W.

M.D.,

In pubhshing the third edition the Editor says that it is onIy after thoroughIy surveying the orthopedicaIIy reIated literature of the postwar years that one becomes truIy aware of the innumerabIe changes that have taken pIace in their speciaIty in the past ten years. In this edition, in addition to incorporating much of the new materia1 and deleting many outmoded methods and ideas, greater emphasis is given to the fundamentaIs, particuIarIy with regard to indications and contraindications for operation and in the choice of the proper operative procedure when more than one method is avaiIabIe. In many pIaces the authors have indicated their own preference as to surgical physioIogy, and aIso surgica1 approaches have been enlarged. Clinical Roentgenology of the Digestive Tract By Maurice FeIdman, M.D. Fourth edition, 776 pages, ihustrated, with an index. BaItimore, rgq. Williams & WiIkins Co. Price $15.00.

Dr. FeIdman’s text represents a genuine revision of the previous edition pubIished in 1947. The book accomplishes its stated purpose of covering the fieId of “diagnostic roentgenology of the digestive tract” in a comprehensive fashion. One finds many entities not usuaIly included in the standard texts on this subject. This reviewer found the use of a bibIiography foIIowing each entity to be advantageous. The sections on the stomach, duodenum and coIon are particuIarIy good. The sections on the Iiver, pancreas and peritoneum suffer somewhat by comparison. Most of the iIIustrations are exceIIent but a few have been carried over from the previous edition and need repIacing. AI1 in aI1, the pros far outweigh the cons, and the book is recommended to a11 interested in gastroenterology. ROBERT L. PINCK, M.D.
