Cantel Medical subsidiary acquires Dialysis Services

C

antel Medical Corporation, through its Mar Cor Purification subsidiary, is further expanding its water purification and filtration business and has entered into an agreement to purchase the water-related assets of Dialysis Services Incorporated (DSI). Based in Springfield, Tennessee, DSI designs, installs and services water and bicarbonate systems for use in dialysis clinics, hospitals and university settings. The business being acquired has pre-acquisition revenues of approximately $1.2 million. Curt Weitnauer, President of Mar Cor Purification, commented: ‘The combination of DSI’s strong brand name and regional presence, combined with Mar Cor’s existing Tennesseebased business, creates a stronger sales and service presence to better serve our customers.’ ‘Through this acquisition, we will be adding an outstanding team and base of business in a highly desirable region — one with great concentration of dialysis clinics and healthcare institutions.’ Cantel’s President and Chief Executive Officer,

R. Scott Jones, added: ‘Building atop our recent acquisition of GE Water & Process Technologies’ dialysis water business (see Membrane Technology June 2007, page 1), we are implementing our strategy to further build out our service network into key geographic areas. The opportunity to achieve both top and bottom line synergies will serve well in strengthening our water purification and filtration business.’ Mar Cor Purification will be retaining DSI’s key sales and service team, including its Chief Operating Officer Michael Sterling and Vice President of Operations Robert Castles, each of whom will enter into employment agreements with the company. DSI will discontinue local manufacturing. Contacts: Cantel Medical Corporation, 150 Clove Road, 9th Floor, Little Falls, NJ 07424-2139, USA. Ionfinity receives patent for soft ionization membrane

U

S-based Viaspace Incorporated, a company that transforms space and defence technologies from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the Department of Defense, into hardware and software, has announced that its Ionfinity subsidiary has been granted a patent for a soft ionization membrane. Ionfinity, is working to develop next-generation mass spectrometry (MS) technology which, says Viaspace, could not only revolutionize the traditional applications of MS for industrial process control and environmental monitoring, but could also ring in a new era of detection systems for homeland security. This patent application concerns the soft ionization membrane, designed to work with the mass

spectrometer or in other applications such as propulsion systems and fuel cells. Dr Carl Kukkonen, Chief Executive Officer of both Viaspace and Ionfinity, said: ‘With this new soft ionization membrane patent we are continuing to add to our substantial intellectual property portfolio.’ ‘Ionfinity is presently focusing on a new system for detection in the homeland security market. This patent is a key element of our strategy to provide a tenfold increase in sensitivity, in a miniaturized, highly portable, low-cost monitoring unit.’ Contact: Viaspace Incorporated, 171 N.
