Cartridge filters for the sterile manufacture of APIs

Solvex cartridge filters from Millipore Corp are now available. These filters have been developed to provide customers with validated and cost efficient sterile filtration for solvent-based active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

Filter media upgraded for improved iron and manganese removal Water treatment and filtration technology, GreensandPlus, has been lauched by Inversand Company. An enhanced version of the company’s Manganese Greensand, the GreensandPlus is already in stock and and available for shipment. The Manganese Greensand filtration process was designed to remove iron, manganese, arsenic, radium and hydrogen sulfide in municipal, industrial, and point-of-use treatment applications.

Solvex filters are suitable for the filtration of a wide variety of organic solvents and are scalable to meet changing process needs within the industry. Millipore says the key characteristics to the Solvex filter cartridges are high-capacity, low extractables, and resistance to thermal and hydraulic stress. The filters, which are economic as they can be reused multiple times, are available in 10 inch, 20 inch, and 30 inch sizes and can be steamed in place up to 135°C.

The new GreensandPlus filter media has the same effective size, uniformity coefficient, density, weight, capacity, backwash and pressure drop curve as the original media. However, GreensandPlus is much more resistant to attrition from high differential pressure, and works effectively on waters that are low in silica, dissolved solids and total hardness.

Sealing oil and hydraulic filters against chemical influences

Controlling particulate and acid gasses in the biofuel industry

European plastic products manufacturer, RAMPF Giessharze, have introduced the RAKU PUR® PU-system for sealing oil and hydraulic filters. This new product has been designed to save both time and energy when sealing filters, and aims to resist against chemical influences, mineral and hydraulic oils, diesel, glycol and synthetic esters. The company says it is the systems use of delayed thixotropic effect that makes time and energy savings possible. With the RAKU PUR® PU the entire production time of a filter element with two filter endcaps will take roughly 50 seconds and approximately 25-30 seconds after sealing one side, the end-cap can be

turned without the sealant material running or dripping. No additional heat is necessary for hardening so that parallel to fixing the first cap the sealing process for the second end-cap can take place on the end of the filter. Likewise, this is placed directly onto the filter element after a further 20 seconds. Afterwards, the finished oil or hydraulic filter can be handled safely and can be touched without damaging the material. www.rampf-giessharze.de

TurboSonic Inc’s emissions control technology, Wet Electrostatic Precipitator, (WESP) has been designed to collect fine respirable particulate, condensible matter, and acid mist. A biofuels producer in the USA has awarded the company a US$4.3 million contract for the design and supply of four of the SonicKleenTM Wet Electrostatic Precipitators. Edward Spink, TurboSonic’s chief executive officer commented, “The SonicKleen™ WESP system will control particulate and acid gases from a high-temperature organic destruction process that converts organic waste matter into a high quality gas stream that can be used for energy recovery.” www.turbosonic.com
