Cellular Immunology – Mission statement

The field of cellular immunology has been a focus of researchers for more than 50 years, starting with elegant studies demonstrating the role of circulating lymphocytes in immunity, the discovery of T and B cell collaboration in antibody formation, and the role of macrophages/antigen presenting cells in immunity. Further elegant work on MHC recognition and the genetic basic of the immune response, the role of cytokines (lymphokines, aka ‘‘factors’’) was advanced by techniques in molecular biology and the utility of monoclonal antibodies, T-cell cloning, flow cytometry and cell sorting, and transgenic technology. This is in an incomplete list of studies that have been chronicled in the field of cellular immunology since 1971. The field of cellular immunology is broad and exciting as the immune system interfaces with virtually every organ system in the body. Our field is not just about cells, but multicellular and intra-cellular interactions and communication. Research in all of these areas has been published and will continue to be published in Cellular Immunology. As our journal enters its 45th year, I am proud and excited to take over the helm (and the challenge) of moving our journal forward, and acknowledging the work of previous Editors, starting

with H. Sherwood (Jerry) Lawrence, Ethan Shevach and Nora Sarvetnick. Cellular Immunology will continue to publish first-rate peer-reviewed original basic and clinical research papers, as well as significant topical reviews and commentaries. Moreover, special focused Issues, research highlights and meeting reviews will also be published. I look forward to working with our outstanding Associate Editors, our new invigorated Editorial Board, as well immunologists around the world, to continue our commitment to Cellular Immunology as a premier journal in cellular immunology. I encourage immunologists world-wide to work with us to increase the readership of our journal. Please join me in this venture! Editor-in-Chief David W. Scott
