Centrifugal sifter offers high capacity sorting Screening and bulk handling equipment manufacturer Rotex has introduced a new Centrifugal Sifter. The company says that it is designed to meet high-capacity sifting for bulk load-in/load-out and larger process applications, such as cost effective handling a wide variety of powders, granules, agglomerates and other freeflowing materials. According to Rotex, processed particles ranging in size from 10mm to 30 microns are easily scalped. The combination of high centrifugal force and blade spreading action reduce binding problems, even when handling materials that tend to flake or agglomerate. Rotex says that the centrifugal sifter units offer largest capacity centrifugal
scalpers available. They are said to be ideal for sizing, sifting, scalping, classifying, breaking of agglomerates and product conditioning applications. Some of the advantages of the Rotex Centrifugal Sifter over conventional types of screening equipment include rotating blades with a spreading action that distribute product around the sieve cylinder for complete utilization of the screen area and convey oversize particles to discharge. In addition, accelerated particles impinging against the sieve cause it to vibrate and clean itself. The company adds that the totally enclosed Centrifugal Sifter eliminates dust problems and the unit is said to operate quietly, with no motion or
vibration to surrounding structures. High centrifugal force provides more throughput capacity per screen cloth area used than conventional screening equipment, says Rotex, and large, quick opening access doors provide easy access
to the sieve chamber and to all internal working parts. Changing or replacing screens is claimed to take minutes with no tools required. Contact: Rotex Europe Tel: +44 1925 651212
X-ray analysis meets plastics industry needs PANalytical has introduced Axios-Poly, a dedicated X-ray analysis system that meets the needs of XRF (X-ray fluorescence spectrometry) analysis in the plastics and polymers industry. The company says that the AxiosPoly offers the highest levels of precision and is ideal for all XRF applications. It is simple to operate, and the compact design can easily be integrated into laboratories. According to PANalytical, Axios-Poly is a fully integrated, wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence system that incorporates all of PANalytical's expertise in XRF analysis. Axios-Poly is designed for accurate and rapid elemental analysis of a variety of additives such as pigments, flame
retardants, stabilizers and catalysts as well as heavy metals in all kinds of plastics and polymers. It achieves this economically and effectively for concentrations ranging from percentage down to sub-ppm levels. The company claims that the key to its capability are two unique and invaluable sets of standards, developed by PANalytical and DSM Resolve. The ADPOL standards are an integral component of AxiosPoly, designed for the calibration of important additive elements like F, Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, S, Ca, Ti, and Zn in plastics and polymers. The TOXEL standards are an option, designed for the calibration of toxic heavy elements like Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn,

As, Br, Cd, Ba, Hg and Pb in polyethylene. As such, they are ideal for applications set up to monitor or control the concentration of elements strictly regulated by environmental directives like RoHS and WEEE. Axios-Poly runs on a new version (4.0) of PANalytical's SuperQ software. Application templates and worked examples for typical plastics and polymers applications are included in the Axios-Poly database. This allows critical applications to be set up quickly without extensive prior knowledge of the software. SuperQ has a modular design, with optional sub-programs like IQ+, for standardless analysis of a wide variety of samples; SPC (statistical process control) for monitoring trends in analytical

data, and UAI (universal automation interface) that enables the integration of AxiosPoly in automated laboratories. PANalytical says that SuperQ is easy to use with a highly intuitive interface and menu. It enables all day-to-day operations to be carried out by inexperienced personnel after minimal instruction. Axios-Poly can handle up to 168 samples at a time and is based on a compact, ergonomic design that is highly accessible and manoeuvrable, with reduced noise levels. Consequently, it is easily integrated into automated laboratories, or easily operated as a stand-alone system. Contact: PANalytical Tel: +31 546 534444 E-mail:
