Publisher’s Note Brain Research: Change in policy for publishing papers describing gene expression patterns As of 2003, instead of being published in a discrete journal in the Brain Research series, papers describing gene expression patterns in the developing nervous system will now be published as a special section in either Developmental Brain Research or Molecular Brain Research, as considered appropriate by the Editors. Authors should now submit their gene expression pattern papers to one of these journals, according to the subject matter. Gene Expression Patterns represent quality papers reporting novel patterns of gene expression during development of the nervous system. Papers should be descriptive and factual, reporting novel gene expression patterns. Strong preference will be given to papers which, despite their descriptive nature, provide insights into behavioral, developmental, physiological, and neurochemical mechanisms, and those related to disorders of nervous system development. Expression analyses should be thorough and they should address several developmental periods. If a gene and its expression pattern have been described previously, the manuscript should represent a definitive study or it should contain significant additional information not present in the previous study to be acceptable for publication. Papers should have the format of Short Communications.
