news Federal-Mogul buys TRW valve business Federal-Mogul Holdings Corporation’s Powertrain division has entered into a definitive purchase agreement to acquire TRW’s engine valve business. The TRW engine valve business – a developer and supplier of engine valves for passenger car engines, heavy-duty engines and large-bore engines for industrial and marine applications – has annual global sales of US$610 million and employs 5,400 people in 12 countries. “The TRW acquisition is a sign of our commitment to the long-term development of Federal-Mogul’s Powertrain division in order to enable its growth and to create value for the company’s customers and shareholders,” said Carl Icahn, chairman of the board of Federal-Mogul Holdings Corporation.

Federal-Mogul’s Powertrain division is a provider of powertrain components, designing and manufacturing products for automotive, heavy-duty, industrial and marine applications. New product line “We are very pleased to bring TRW’s engine valve business into Federal-Mogul Powertrain as it will add a completely new product line to our portfolio, strengthen our market position as a leading developer and supplier of core components for engines, and enhance our ability to support our customers to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions,” said Rainer Jueckstock, Co-CEO, Federal-Mogul Holdings Corporation and CEO, Powertrain.

Plansee shows support for conflict minerals council Plansee has been registered as a supporter member of the Tungsten Industry Conflict Minerals Council (TI-CMC). The working group is an initiative of the tungsten industry dedicated to promoting greater transparency in the realm of tungsten procurement. Tungsten from TI-CMC-compliant companies is only procured from responsible, conflict-free sources. The requirement for socially and ecologically responsible procurement is set out in Plansee’s Code of Conduct and the company’s purchasing guidelines ensure that no materials are sourced from regions of conflict.

Plansee’s procurement of tantalum has already been certified as compliant with ethical and social standards by the EICC/GeSI initiative and it has openly agreed to adhere to the TI-CMC commitment. This also includes the due diligence guidance for supply chains of minerals from conflict-affected and high-risk areas as issued by the OECD and is designed to support companies in meeting their disclosure obligations in respect of the US Securities and Exchange Commission rule on conflict minerals. Plansee’s tungsten supplier GTP is also fully compliant with the TI-CMC Commitment and is a founding member of the working group.

Chinese MIM parts now available globally Sofine Gian PIM Tech Co Ltd, a China based supplier of powder and metal injection moulding parts says that its powder injection moulding (PIM) and metal injection moulding (MIM) parts are now available for delivery across the world. “At Sofine, we develop high-end MIM products that

help integrate multiple components to help minimise the secondary operations,” said a company spokesperson. The company makes parts using soft magnetic alloy, ceramic and custom powder metal. It aims to deliver parts with a higher degree of flexibility that are tailor-made to a client’s requirements.
