At constant scope and currency conversion, net sales rose by 6.3%. The growth of volumes in the agrochemicals market and formulations for oil drilling continued in 1H 2008. New selling price increases generated a positive 7.2% impact on net sales. The decline in operating profit is due to the 7.9% OCTOBER 2008

decrease in recurring EBITDA from €63 M in 1H 2007 to €58 M in 1H 2008. The recurring EBITDA margin amounted to 12.2% in 1H 2008 (12.9%). Growth in volumes generated a positive impact of €2 M. Selling price increases, which had a positive impact of €32 M, more than offset the €25 M rise in raw material and energy costs. Exchange rate fluctuations generated a negative €7 M impact. Fixed costs rose by €5 M mainly due to growth projects and inflation. The decrease in Novecare’s operating profit was also attributable to the positive €1 M consolidation scope impact, the negative €1 M transactional exchange rate impact, the negative €1 M impact from other operating income and expenses in addition to the rise in restructuring costs and depreciation, amortization and impairment of €2 M. For the remainder of 2008, Novecare should benefit from new opportunities to raise selling prices due to a favourable trend in its markets.
