(Harbin University of Science and Technology, Harbin, China). Chinese J. Mech. Engng 25, No. 1 (March, 1989), pp. 1-7. CJ89-02. Design and study of lathe tools of heat pipe type. By QIAOZHONGFUand LIu JIANNAN (Northeast University of Technology, Shenyang, China). Chinese J. Mech. Engng 25, No. 1 (March, 1989), pp. 8-12. CJ89-03. Microcomputer simulation to casting solidification and the prediction on shrinkage cavity and porosity. By WANG SHENQIANGet al. (Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China). Chinese J. Mech. Engng 25, No. 1 (March, 1989), pp. 13-18. Practical software for two-dimensional simulation of casting solidification, developed on an IBM PC/AT microcomputer is reported in which a changeable timestep procedure is applied to calculate heat transfer. Consequently, the computational speed is increased by more than two or three times and the error derived from this procedure is within 2%. Discussion is made of the suitability prediction method for treating the shrinkage cavity and porosity. As far as the solidification shrinkage of castings is concerned, the present method gives predictions of the size, shape and position of shrinkage cavities which are confirmed by experimental results. CJ89-04. Analytical and experimental investigations of the dynamic stability of high-speed cam-follower systems. By LIN YI (Dept. of Mech. Engng, Fuzhou University, Fuzhou, China) et al. Chinese J. Mech. Engng 25, No. 1 (March, 1989), pp. 19-28. A new dynamic model of high-speed cam-follower systems is developed, in which both the longitudinal oscillation and transverse vibration of the push-rod are considered. The equations of motion for the push-rod and the critical frequency determinant are derived to determine the transition curves separating the stable region from the unstable one. An experiment was carried out to justify the validity of the theoretical analysis. CJ89-05. The application of the Yu Ruihuang's theory in the phase transformation of industrial materials. By LIu ZHILIN et al. (Jilin University of Technology, Changchun, China). Chinese J. Mech. Engng 25, No. 1 (March, 1989), pp. 29-37. CJ89-06. The numerical solution of EHL problem of line contact lubricated by grease. By YING ZINENG and WEN SHIZHU (Qinghua University, Beijing, China). Chinese J. Mech. Engng 25, No. 1 (March, 1989), pp. 38-45. The Reynolds equation of grease based on Herschel-Bulkley model is derived and the EHL problem of line contact with grease is analyzed by a numerical method. Both the thixotropic effect in grease and the starving lubrication caused by the yield shear stress of grease are taken into account. The numerical solution is in good agreement with experimental data. The reason for the decrease in the thickness of the lubrication film with worktime is also explained. CJ89-07.
