APPLICATIj&&$ Chrysler’s easy-to-build, low cost concept car TARGETED AT the emerging markets of the world, Chrysler says its Composite Concept Vehicle (CCV) is designed to be durable, efficient and affordable and ‘as easy to assemble as a toy’ as it would have to be built easily, cheaply and locally.
A RANGE OF clamps made from glass reinforced polyamide are now available from Carver & Co.
The US car maker claims the CCV, unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, is the first all-injection moulded car where the only use of steel is in the frame chassis.
The body of the CCV is made
fitted and bonded together, and then bonded and bolted to the chassis. The body sections are made using a 8200 tonne thermoplastic moulding machine which injects resin into massive 145 tonne moulds. Chrysler has more than 20 new patents pending relating to the manufacture of the vehicle.
The main body of the CCV consists of only five major components - four glass reinforced thermoplastic body sections (two interior, and two exterior) and a steel chassis. The four large composite sections are simply
offour thermoplastic panels.
In its current version, the CCV is a 4.7 litre/ 100 km (50 miles per galIon) five-seater saloon, and is nearly 100% recyclable. It would be competitively priced between a motorbike and an entrylevel truck or car at about ’ $6000. (A detailed article about the CCV will appear in the December issue of

Carbon fibre helps Life-Jet corner better THE UNIQUE cornering dynamics of Mercedes Benz’ three-wheeled F300 Life-Jet concept car are possible thanks to carbon fibre suspension components. The vehicle, on display at the Frankfurt motor show in September, is said to combine the feel of a motorbike with the safety and comfort of a car. The articulated front suspension features exposed dual-wishbone control arms made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic. The same material is combined with steel guide tubes on each side of the parallelogram suspension. The body relies on an aluminium space frame. CIRCLE
