BASF launches new enzyme product line Lavergy for detergents and cleaners at SEPAWA 2016 At the 63rd SEPAWA Congress in Fulda, Germany, on 12-14 Oct 2016, BASF presented its latest solutions for applications in the home care and industrial & institutional cleaning (I&I) markets, as well as for the personal care sector (see p 4). For home care and I&I, BASF's focus was on the launch of its new enzyme product line Lavergy. For the first time the protease Lavergy Pro 104 L was revealed to the market. BASF's new protease is a highperformance alternative to established market standards in liquid laundry detergents, especially at low washing temperatures between 208C and 308C. Lavergy Pro 104 L has been proven in independent tests by the Hohenstein Institute to enable superior removal of specific stains such as egg, blood and milk types. The enzyme will be available in liquid form and is suitable for the formulation of liquid laundry detergents and gels. Lavergy Pro 104 L was also the subject of a presentation, 'Next level of low temperature washing', by Oliver Spangenberg at SEPAWA's Forum for Innovations. BASF also promoted its Trilon M chelating agents for automatic dishwashing products at the event. Original source: BASF, 12 Oct 2016, (Website: http://www.basf.com/) © BASF 2016

Health Windtree releases data from lung deposition study in non-human primates demonstrating uniform distribution of aerosolized KL4 surfactant in all regions of the lung Windtree Therapeutics Inc (formerly Discovery Laboratories), a biotechnology company focused on developing aerosolized KL4 surfactant therapies for respiratory diseases, has released data from a lung deposition study conducted in non-human primates (NHPs) demonstrating that the company's proprietary aerosol delivery system (ADS) is capable of delivering aerosolized KL4 surfactant throughout all regions of the lung. The study consisted of a series of experiments in NHPs designed to assess the distribution and deposition of aerosolized KL4 surfactant in the lung when administered using the ADS. The company is developing the ADS as part of its lead development programme, Aerosurf (lucinactant for inhalation). Aerosurf is currently being studied in a Phase 2b clinical trial as a potential noninvasive treatment for respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature infants ['Focus on Surfactants', Feb 2016].
