Editorial note
CMI reinforces its ties with ESCMID Clinical Microbiology and Infection (CMI) plans to highlight some of the most outstanding achievements resulting from the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) research and educational activities. The CMI Editorial Office and ESCMID’s Scientific and Communication Offices have established a plan to work closely together to achieve this. First, selected keynote speakers and excellence awardees presenting at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) will be invited to write a narrative review or a commentary on the topic of their talk, to be considered for publication in CMI (http://www.clinicalmicrobiologyandinfection.com/ content/authorinfo). Furthermore, some of the authors of the bestrated abstracts accepted for ECCMID (rating attributed by the ECCMID reviewers during the review process) will also be encouraged to submit their work as an original article to CMI, to be considered for publication (http://www.clinicalmicrobiologyandinfection. com/content/authorinfo). Although we cannot guarantee publication of the submitted manuscripts (the articles will be sent for peer review), the best of the original articles accepted for publication will be granted free access without any charge to the authors (meaning the full text will be available online free of charge for all readers). We plan to publish most of the accepted articles as close to the date of ECCMID as possible, to give them maximum visibility. ESCMID will also promote these accepted articles relating to ECCMID presentations and activities, and advertise them on the ECCMID website (including the congress app), on display screens throughout the congress, on the ESCMID website, in the ESCMID newsletter and via its social media channels. If timing allows, these
articles will finally receive a special mention in the printed programme book of the congress. Second, the CMI Editorial Office will review the content of the best-rated ESCMID educational courses (based on the participants’ rating), held outside ECCMID as 2- to 5-day free-standing events, and select the most compelling topics to be considered for themed issues and stand-alone systematic or narrative reviews (http:// www.clinicalmicrobiologyandinfection.com/content/authorinfo). For all this, the CMI Editorial Office will select the topics based on their originality and interest to the CMI readership. We hope that you will find this reinforced CMI/ESCMID collaboration of added value, and we are looking forward to receiving any suggestion you may have. C.
