Polycolour Plastics to manufacture colourants, additives and fillers
Polycolour Plastics has obtained a licence to make a range of easily dispersed pigments, additives and filers either as a dustless free-flow powder or as conventional pellets. Both the powder and pellets are made up of coated particles giving good dispersions and covering power, say the fum. Croxton 8z Garry supplies a range of coated and uncoated wollastonitegrades under the SNOWFORT and KEMOLIT trade names. A significant amount of development work has been carried out over the past few months which identities the advantages of this filler/reinforcement in thermoset and thermoplastic systems, particularly the coated grades which the company say can be used as partial replacement for glass fibre reinforcements with significant commercial benefits. Specific coated grades are available for thermosets, polyolefins (PP and HDPE) and polyamides. Of particular interest are the mechanical properties of PPH and PPC filled with 40% Snowfort 4000 A50. Izod impact and flexural modulus values are similar for both filled polymers offering the commercial incentive of using PPH in place of PPC.
