1t is rarely a ny after tro uble ensues .and the oper.ation produces. a good result. I s quic k and safe. The old treatme nt o f drenchi ng with opiates is not a lways successful. A very u seful colic draught I give in con junction with the tappi n g i·s as follows:Tinct. Aconite, Flemings ' 10 minims Sp. Vi n i R ect. 1 o un ce 20 minims C hloroform Sachar L'st . q .s. a t pleasu re Aqua ad 10 o unces This ca n be repeated in a n hour . Two doses usually s uffice . I only send this to give o ur yo unge r practition ers th e ass ura nce that, of my o wn experience, wi th ordinary care they will not regr et resorting to th is be neficial operation.

" I saw the case, a nd found tha t the vaginal mucous me mbrane h ad three or fo ur welJ-marked ra ised ulcers, fia t-topped, and .abou t th e size of a sixpe nce . T:heir s urface wa6 bright red. The ulcers had th e a ppea rance of ha ving b een s tuck on a rtificially . Th ere was another ulcer on the hairless s kin• of the vuh·a , a n d o n e on the bu ttock , where th e p enj·s of the s talli on could have easi ly come in contact d_uring copul ation. I orde red a There was. a yellowish discharge from th e vagi na. weak irrigation twice dail y with lysol, a nd sali n es in th e dr in ki ng wa ter. I returned to coll ege next day, but h ea rd later that the mare was a:J right in t en days, so that from th e date of sen·ice a bout a fortnight elapsed . lt is. more probable t hat spontaneous recovery had occurred, as the a ffection seems qu ite benig n and heals with or \Vithout trea tm e nt in abou t a fortnight .
