Potable water use for composite REICHHOLD’S Dion Ver@ 9102-00 coating system has been certified by NSF International that it complies with the NSF-61 standard for potable water applications. Qualification of the Dion Ver 9102-00 coating system is a major step forward for manufacturers of corrosion resistant composite equipment, says Reichhold, as it will permit fabricators to lower their cost of producing high quality equipment for the fast growing water storage and handling market, and increase their market share. The certification means that tanks and pipes fabricated with the Dion Ver 9102-00 coating system now comply with the requirements of NSF-61. The certification relates to all components of the coating system including DION 9102-00 resin, specific catalysts, additives and glass fibre, as well as its specific curing method.

In order to qualify, all materials in a resin must be identified and characterized for their toxicity. Extraction tests are performed, and the amount of material extracted is tested at the parts per billion level. A determination is then made of the possible threat to health posed by these materials. NSF International develops standards, tests products and certifies services in the areas of public health safety and protection of the environment. The NSF mark is present on consumer commercail and industrial products. Reichhold; tel: +l-91 g-9907500; fax: +I -919-990-7749. -. _

Reichhold says this designation makes Dion Ver@ 9102-00 the only NSF-61 listed ester resin for potable water applications because in the past composite materials were unable to meet the NSF-61 standard without the use of a special coating.
