4691 colour inkjet plotter from Tektronix

Colour inkier hardcopier Tektronix have launched an inkjet colour copier, the 4691. A3 and A4 copies can be produced. There are four ink cartridges lyellow, cyan, magenta

and black) and additional colours can be produced by 'dithering'. The plotter can place 150 dots/in in both horizontal and vertical directions, at a speed of about 20 000 droplets/s. An A4 plot takes about 2½ min, an A3 plot about 4 min. The 4691 is compatible with the 4113 Option 9 graphics terminal, which allows spooling of an image file onto disc. Up to four terminals can be interfaced to one copier. Alternatively, the copier may be linked to a host computer, so that the plotted resolution may be that of the host rather than the terminal being used. The 4691 costs about £10000.

I ntergraph have launched two new displays with local processing power. Both the monochrome DSPO41 and the colour DSPO42 have a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels. The refresh rate is 60Hz. Up to eight independent working views can be displayed. Each display has three local processors and an 0.824 Mbyte internal memory, proriding dynamic pen, zoom and 3D rotation. The DSPO42 has a palette of 4096 colours, of which 256 are displayable simultaneously. Double-buffered raster memory planes are used. (Intergraph

Local area network Calma is now offering a local-area networking feature for its CADCAM systems. Based on the GE-Net, the network links together Calma's electronics CAD systems and their new engineering workstations with a DEC VAX over distances of up to 1500 m. Additional 1500 m extensions are available via repeater units. Up to 20 channels of data may be used, with facilities for video and voice transmission if required. The network uses the CSMA/CD protocol, with provision for

Pressure-sensitivepen A pressure sensing digitizer pen has been launched by GTCO Corporation. The pen senses up to 32 levels of pressure at its tip; these may be translated into varying line widths, line textures, grey scales or colour. It may also be used with GTCO's 4D option, which senses pen tilt angle. The pen is particularly aimed at artists, allowing them to treat the digitizing process in a similar way to normal drawing or painting. The Pressure Pen costs $720.

be used. Options include a remote control track ball, cursor, overlay and co]our mapper. The cursor includes a programmable 64 x 64 inner patch so that a targeting shape can be defined. The colour mapper allows for colour correction, gamma correction, and false colour. A basic framestore costs £7 000; a complete system including 4 image memories, AD and DA convertors, cursor, track ball, overlay and colour mapper costs £25 000. (Computer

Colour workstation from Sigma Sigma Electronics Limited have added a colour workstation to their 5000 Series range. The $5484 has a highresolution [1536 x 1024 pixels) 20 in display, with a detachable keyboard which incorporates a joystick. A number of new features are included in the $5484, including fast vector drawing, irregular boundary area fill and firmware generation of circles, arcs and ellipses. These features will now be included on all the 5000 Series. Up to 64 user specific tasks can be programmed in. The co]ours may be chosen from a palette of 4096 different shades. In addition to the pixel memory planes, there is an independent text store for four pages of text, with a programmable screen format of up to 30 lines of 80 characters, or 40 double-width characters.
