Column range delivers reproducibility The Syncronis range from Thermo Fisher Scientific has been engineered to deliver reproducibility by providing highly pure, high surface-area silica, dense bonding and double end-capping, all controlled and characterised through rigorous testing. The enhanced, automated column packing methods used within the range deliver greater consistency, and every column is individually tested to ensure that it meets the required specifications. System for microfiltration and ultrafiltration processing Spectrum Laboratories’ KrosFlo Research lli Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) System comes with a digital pressure monitor integrated into the peristaltic pump. The digital pressure monitor has a digital LCD display with LED backlight. Four pressure measurements are displayed including: feed, retentate, permeate and transmembrane pressure. The system has audible and visual, low and high pressure alarms for the inlet and permeate, and a high-pressure pump shut-off which helps maintain membrane

integrity and achieve high product recovery. The KFComm Data Collection Software included with the system interfaces with a computer to download real time process data to an Excel file. The information captured includes pressures and flow rates. The software also calculates and trends transmembrane pressure, filtration flux, shear, volumetric throughput and the concentration factor. Membrane diffuser provides energy savings Tests show that ITT’s Gold Series membrane diffuser has the ability to deliver energy savings of more than 20% over comparable products in the marketplace. The membrane diffuser offers high standard oxygen transfer efficiency (SOTE). The combination of a higher SOTE and a better head loss through the membrane results in higher overall standard aeration efficiency (SAE), measured in oxygen delivered per kilowatt hour (kgO2/kWh).

The membrane diffuser is available in three lengths and the Gold Series grids can be combined with grids of Silver Series diffusers, giving them flexibility for all basin configurations, including circular or other unusual geometries. Retrofit system treats ballast water The BWT 500i system from Wartsila and Trojan Marinex integrates filtration and UV disinfection techniques into a single unit which meets the latest and most stringent environmental regulations. The system has a compact design, making it easy to install and suitable for most vessels. It treats the ballast water via a two-step process, first by filtering out larger organisms and particles, and then by UV disinfection. The UV irradiation either kills the remaining organisms, or renders them incapable of reproduction. Each unit is capable of treating 500 m3 ballast water per hour, with the possibility to install several units in parallel for higher flow rates. Vesa Marttinen, director of Wärtsilä’s Environmental Services unit, said: “Easy installation and a small profile are crucial for the retrofit market, and have been central to our design process from the outset. We have done extensive pre-testing and have worked in close co-operation with our customers in order to meet the key requirements. Denitrification system removes phosphorus ITT Leopold’s elimi-NITE 2.0 denitrification system is the next step from elimi-NITE deep bed biologically active, monomedia sand filter used to remove nitrate from the effluent of wastewater treatment plants. The upgraded system better defines the operational characteristics of different types of silica media and better defines the different ways to operate and control the filter. source used in the filter. The precise chemical control can reduce chemical usage and also produce a precise effluent nitrate concentration.
