(Received 30 March 1971) THE AUTHORSare to be commended for their presentation of extensive results in graphical form, which should prove of value to designers. However, it is unfortunate t h a t the authors were unaware of previous related work in addition to t h a t cited. I n 1939, Glushkov 1 considered a centrally rotating, uniform-thickness circular disk of cylindrically orthotropic material; his analysis is presented in Lekhnitskii's book. ~ The problem treated by the present authors, a centrally rotating, cylindrically orthotropic disk of hyperbolic profile, was analyzed in 1949 by Sen Gupta, 8 who also considered an exponential profile disk. This same problem was also investigated by Tang and Adams ;~ their work was published in the same m o n t h as the paper presently being discussed. The present paper presented more extensive quantitative results than refs. 3 a~d 4. Reference 5 presented a general solution for the problem of a cylindrically orthotropic, hyperbolic profile circular disk subjected to arbitrary body forces acting in the plane of the disk. A general closed-form solution was given for the case of rotation about an eccentric axis. REFERENCES 1. G. S. GLUSHKOV, Trudy Moskova Stanko.Instrum. Sbornik I I 1 (1939), according to ref. 2. 2. S. Reply to discussion: (Received 10 June 1971) TH~ AUTHORSwish to thank Professor Bert for his kind comments and for bringing their attention to the additional references. The present paper, apart from providing extensive design data, also deals with the limiting eases which arise because of the possible independent variation of the geometrical and material properties of the disk.
