Commentary on ‘‘The CROWN Initiative: Journal Editors Invite Researchers to Develop Core Outcomes in Women’s Health’’ The CoRe Outcomes in WomeN’s health (CROWN) Initiative is an international proposal to encourage editors to request a certain set of core outcomes are reported by authors in studies to minimize variability in reporting. Consensus sets of core outcomes are derived by engaging all stakeholders, including patients, clinicians, and researchers. The use of consensus outcomes across studies of the same condition will facilitate the drawing of ‘‘useful conclusions’’ when multiple studies are examined as a ‘‘whole’’ in systematic reviews and meta-analyses [1]. The American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) Task Force on Patient Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) was formed to provide a platform to inform and engage the AAGL membership at large about the PCOR research movement. Patient-centered outcomes (PCO) are clinical or other outcomes identified by patients as important to them with respect to their care and treatment. PCOs are crucial to patient satisfaction and quality of care and are a key element of The CROWN Initiative. The understanding and acceptance of PCOs are a key component of our current model of value-based purchasing (high quality, low cost) and reimbursement as clinicians and will be vital to our practice. As for researchers, embracing the concept of PCOs and including them in studies will be important for

the success of the study and to improve the evidence base for clinical decision making. On behalf of the AAGL PCOR Task Force, the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology is pleased to support The CROWN Initiative and recommends the CROWN editorial to all readers [1]. The publication of Khan’s editorial also signals this journal’s membership in the circle of professional societies actively working to improve PCOs by using evidence-based medicine.
