Compact filters for ballast water treatment Filtersafe® has launched a range of compact filters for the treatment of ballast water in smaller cargo vessels. The compact models of single screen, BS Series Automatic filters are designed to handle flow rates of 50-1,300m3/hr. Filtersafe says the filters can operate in vertical or horizontal configurations, are adaptable and are particularly suited to use in vessels with limited space for filtering equipment. The compact line contains fewer parts than larger filters, which the company
says makes them easier to maintain and offer a longer service life. The company adds that commercial interest in ballast water filtration systems has increased markedly as implementation of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM) becomes more likely. The treaty, sponsored by the Londonbased International Marine Organization (IMO), is aimed at
combating marine bio-invasions. As more nations ratify the convention, it is likely that it will come into force in 2016.

Micro fibers at Filtration Show
Beco Integra plate filtration system
Johns Manville (JM), manufacturer of nonwovens from glass fibers, polyester and polypropylene, will present products at its booth number 327 at the Filtration Show in Chicago, November 18-19, 2015.
Eaton has launched two new sizes of its Beco Integra plate filtration system. The system is now available in a small 200 mm (7.9 in) and larger 1000 mm (39.3 in) size. The filtration system is designed for R&D laboratory applications through to higher batch volumes in manufacturing processes in the fine chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
The company will display a polyester spunbond for air pollution control which is produced at the new JM BiCo spunbond line in Berlin, Germany. . For HVAC applications, JM provides its micro glass air media with 100% biosoluble glass fibers that are harmless to health. The natural structure of the filter media allows a low pressure drop combined with a high dust holding capacity. Furthermore it enables purely mechanical filtration. For filtration media for food & beverage applications JM’s PP meltblown provides precision calendaring delivering consistent filtration properties. A third party certification is available for highpurity filtration applications. www.jm.com
The company says that the system is a hermetically enclosed plate and frame filter. The depth filtration system consists of a filter chassis with hydraulic compression and a filter pack. Depending on the filtration task, the filter pack is made up of feed plates, filtrate plates, or cake frames. BECO depth filter sheets are inserted between the filter elements and

This ensures that only the filter element and the BECO depth filter sheet are in contact with the fluid and as a result prevents cross contamination. www.eaton.com/filtration
