A total of 14 blackswere performedusing either .25% or .5%bupiwrcaine. Yhen necessarythe femoralnerve was blacked in the inguinal High in the poplltoalfossil, the sciaticnerve divides into t'lbial and ~~~~~~~Tbranches. It lies superficialand just lateralto the femoral artery and may be blacked at this point. (flackswere performedin the slightlylateral.prone or supine position with the leg flexed, using a 21 gauge U-bevel needle with flexible extcnslon tubing with the po[jllteal wet-y as the landmark. A single Injectionof 3-15 CT. was plamd PatPrallt3 the artery as high as possible in the fassa. Successful block ki;s judged by the need for post operative analgesia as determinedby the nursingitaff. 93% of the blacks were successfulwith the durationof analgesiaranging from 2.5 to 48 hours. No complicationswere observed. This shnplc procedurecan provtdo safe and effectiwupost-apewttve pain relief in children.
