Composite Materials and Structures. Edited by K. A. V. Pandalai. Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, India, 1988. Price: US$30.00. This volume forms part of the Proceedings of an International Conference on Composite Materials and Structures (ICCMS No. 88) organised by the Fibre Reinforced Plastics Research Centre of the Indian Institute of Technology in January 1988. It contains 11 specially invited papers dealing with very diverse topics within the Conference theme. These range from three papers which give an overview of research and development progress in Japan, U S A and India to some very specialised technical papers. Consequently, it is difficult to perceive the overall theme for this book. Bearing in mind the above comments, it is difficult to envisage the precise market for this book. However, it is modestly priced and will make a contribution to knowledge. I. H. Marshall

Delamination Buckling of Composite Materials. Edited by L. M. Kachanov. Martinus Nijhoff, Dordrecht, The Netherlands, 1988. ISBN 9024737702. Price: US$47.00. There is little doubt that the last few years have seen a perceptible increase in the number of papers which consider the compressive strength of composites. Likewise, there has been a similar increase in reported studies on damage tolerance aspects. Since accidental impact can often produce a delamination of the surface layers in composite structures which could be thereafter subjected to compressive stresses, it is of direct interest to consider the possibility of delamination buckling of these surface layers. 235 Composite Structures (13) (1989)--~ 1989 Elsevier Science Publishers Ltd, England.
