Conference Announcement and First Call for Papers Fifth International Conference on Intelligent Autonomous Systems
(IAS-5) Sapporo, Japan, 1-4 June 1998 WWW:http://junji.complex.hokudai.ac.jp/- ias5 After four successful meetings in Amsterdam (1986 and 1989), in Pittsburgh (1993) and in Karlsruhe (1995), the next IAS Conference will be held in Sapporo, Japan.The purpose of the conference is to provide an opportunity for the international community of researchers in the field of autonomous systems to discuss the state of the art and future directions of complex autonomous systems as well as archictectures, tools, components, techniques, and new IAS design methodologies. The emphasis of the conference will be on the science and technology for autonomous systems working in a complex environment. Topics: The scope will include all components of intelligent autonomous systems such as: Autonomous Robots; Soft-Mechanics, Intelligent Mechatronics; Intelligent Control Planning and Control Architectures; Human and Robot Skill; Human-Machine Cooperation; Smart Sensors; Micro-Mechatronics; Image Understanding; Real World Recognition; Evolutionary Computation; Biologically Inspired Systems; Adaptation and Learning; Behaviour-Based Intelligence; Multi-Agent Systems; Complex Adaptive Systems; Animat Systems. Submissions: Four copies of extended abstracts by 15 November 1997 (including figures, not exceeding four pages). Notification of Acceptance: 30 January 1998. Camera Ready Paper: 31 March 1998. All accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings of IAS-5.
