Conference in isotopes in the solar systems
ANNOUNCEMENT
International Conference on ISOT ES IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM Ahm bad, India 1 1 - 1 4 November, 1997 The Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad will hold an International Conference on "Isotopes in the Solar System" at Ahmedabad during November 11-14, 1997. The deliberation in the conference will focus on the studies of isotopic records in Earth, Moon and Meteorites that have significantly advanced our knowledge regarding the origin of the solar system and the evolution of our own planet. Delineation of the past climate and the dynamics of one of the major reservoirs on our planet, the Ocean system also owes considerably to the use of isotopic tracers. The Physical Research Laboratory is actively engaged in all these areas of research for the last several decades, and the aim of the conference, organized as a part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of PRL, is to provide a forum for discussion of the present status and future directions in these fields. The themes that will be covered in the conference are: • • • •
Isotopic Records in Meteorites and the Early Solar System. Isotope Geology, Geochemistry and Geochronology of Himalayas and peninsular India. Isotopic Records of Quaternary Climates. Isotopic Tracers for Water and Particle Dynamics in the Ocean
Conference Format/Registration~Accommodation/Financial Support It is proposed to have plenary talks covering broad aspects of each theme and invited reviews covering specific topics. Contributed papers will be put up as posters and will be summarized by rapporteurs. We also plan to bring out an abstract volume and a proceedings of the conference. The registration fee for foreign delegates is US $150 and $100 for each accompanying person. The present tariff for accommodation ranges from $60 to $75 per day (double occupancy) in Hotels with all the amenities. It may be possible to provide partial support to some participants to cover their local expenses (boarding and lodging) during the conference duration. Post conference excursions will be planned if there is sufficient interest among participants.
