he Central Society for Clinical Research, in its primary mission, is a vehicle dedicated to capturing and disseminating scientific knowledge. Accordingly, this organization encourages the quest for excellence in research targeted to the establishment or extension of the conceptual understanding of biomedical processes, as well as the solution of clinical problems, which will ultimately lead to the measurable enhancement of the quality of life. Toward these goals the society recognizes the importance of nurturing the creativity and energy of young investigators and is committed to contributing to their development as the next generation of academic leaders. It is with great pleasure and satisfaction that I, on behalf of the Central Society for Clinical Research,
congratulate this year’s recipients of the Midwest Trainee Investigator Awards and congratulate Dr Jay W. Heinecke for his selection as the 1998 Outstanding Investigator. The original and innovative work of these and all other invited scientists attending these sessions, which are cosponsored by the Midwest Section of the American Federation for Clinical Research, provides not only recurrent luster to the meetings but represents a continued stimulus to enhance the scope of the society’s missions into the twenty-first century.
