Provide periprocedural management for patients undergoing regional therapy, including premedication, pain control and palliation of post-embolization syndrome. 3. CAROTID STENIlNG AND STROKE MANAGEMENT (08) Upon completion of this workshop, the attendee will be able to:

1. Provide a knowledge base from which practicing interventional radiologists can determine whether certain skills can and should be applied to neurovascular problems. 2. Review relevant anatomy necessary to problem solving in acute case management. 3. Develop a better understanding of head and neck revascularization procedures with particular emphasis on: a. management of acute stroke; b. revascularization of brachiocephalic stenoses and occlusions with emphasis on fibrinolytic therapy, balloon angioplasty, and stenting procedures; c. management of carotid and vertebal stenoses with emphasis on fibrinolytic therapy, balloon angioplasty and stent placement; and d. discuss ethical issues relevant to carotid angioplasty and stenting and the various clinical scenarios whereby carotid angioplasty and stenting are appropriate by current data in the literature. List the common medications used for sedation, including strategies to minimize their adverse effects. 3. Understand about the sedation of the pediatric patient. 4. Understand the JCAHO requirements regarding conscious sedation and advice on their implementation in the interventional suite.
