Consultants-1978
to 1985
0 utstanding consultants from a variety of disciplines have provided valuable assistance and support to the AMERICAN JOURNALOF~RTHODONTICSfor the past 7 years. These advisers have played vital roles in the development and maintenance of the Journal’s high standards of quality. Their prepublication evaluations of manuscripts have saved reams of JOURNAL space that would otherwise have been expended on a separate discussion section. Two to four consultants per article now devote their time and expertise. Many are selected on the basis of their research in the subject area and their opposing points of view. Their reports are valuable to the authors because they provide references to studies or observations contradictory to or nonsupportive of the authors’ conclusions. This is absolutely essential to a scientific article. Objective referees can guide the authors, identify omissions and errors, or clarify other aspects of presentations. Advances in our specialty can arise only from clarification and the search for truth. Authors benefit from the new perspectives generated by our reviewer reports. We deeply appreciate the many unselfish hours of evaluation and thoughtful reporting by the following consultants: James L. Ackerman, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania Johan G. A. Ahlgren, Malmo, Sweden Thomas Alexander, Birmingham, Alabama Paul Alexandre, Lyon, France Jerome A. Altman, Howard Beach, New York G. F. Andreasen, Iowa City, Iowa Lawrence F.
