£Dbituarp. Mr. S. Greenlees. M. R. c.V.S., of Todmorden, Lancashire, died on Jun e 2. H e studied in Edinbur~h, and rece ived his rliploma April 16, 1867. Mr. J. J. Plunket, Royal Artillery, whose demise we recorded in our last issue, died August 24. The veterinary, in common with th e m edical profession, must deeply regret the death, a t the age of sixty-t hree years, of Dr. J. Hug hes Bennett, Profe,so r of the Institutes of Medicine in the Edinb urgh University. Thi s m ela ncholy e vent occ urred at Norw ich on Septe mber 25th. Professor Ben nett's contributi ons to general and comparative,no less than to h uman, physiology and path ology, a re \'ery numerous, and some of th em of great in terest and im porta nce. His investigat ions into the growt h of pa rasitic fun g i on anim als were of speci al interest to th e veterinarian, an d he was one of th e fir st to SllOW th a t certain cu ta neOllS diseases of the hum a n species are due to th ese organisms. His origi nal views wit h regard to inflammation brought about a m ost beneficial change in its treatmen t-a cha nge wh ich has been attended with the happiest results in veterinary medicine. Hi s other services to m edical science, an d his large cont ributi ons to its li terature, stand as a worthy monument to his ab ility, originalit y, and never-ceasing industry.
