The author deeply regrets that an error occurred in the original printing of the above paper. The previously published micrograph in Fig. 6A was erroneously showing the effect of 3-methylcholanthrene on digestive cell lysosomes and not fluoranthene as stated. Also, the micrographs in Fig. 6C–E relate to the phenanthrene treatment and not fluoranthene as previously stated.
Fig. 6. Frozen tissue sections of hepatopancreas showing the effects of the PAHs fluoranthene and phenanthrene on digestive cells: (A) fluoranthene treated cells showing characteristic PAH-induced swollen autolysosomes (arrows) reacted for the lysosomal marker enzyme -N-acetylhexosaminidase; (B) pale blue intra-lysosomal fluorescence (arrows) due to accumulated fluoranthene; (C) phenanthrene induced crescentic accumulation of neutral lipid (oil red-O) in swollen autolysosomes (arrows); (D) control digestive cells (from the phenanthrene experiment) showing representative normal phospholipid-negative lysosomes (L) and residual bodies (RB, tertiary lysosomes) reacting for phospholipid; (E) phenanthrene-treated digestive cells showing swollen phospholipid-positive autolysosomes (AL) and residual bodies (RB, tertiary lysosomes) reacting for phospholipid. Arrows in A–C indicate representative autophagolysosomes (autolysosomes). Scale bars = 10 m.
