The authors regret an error made in this article about the specification of the material used. Please find below the authors comments. “We had purchased the shape memory alloy (SMA) from M/s Shape Memory Applications, Inc., Santa Clara, CA, USA. The composition indicated in the “Certificate of Conformance” given by the suppliers shows that the SMA is Ni-rich NiTi. We had just believed the supplier’s certificate, as the company is one among the reputed firms in the field of supplying SMAs. Later on when we were working on the same material it was realized that a Ni-rich (50.8 Ni–49.2 Ti) alloy is not expected to exhibit transformation temperatures in the range from +40 to +140 ◦ C, even after heat treatment. This range of transformation temperatures is typical of a Ti-rich alloy, instead of a Ni-rich alloy. Once we had this realization, we had carried out EDAX analysis of our samples and it was found that our sample is indeed Ti-rich NiTi. [Manjunatha Pattabi, K. Ramakrishna, Mater. Sci. Eng. A 486 (2008) 14]. Therefore, at all places in the article under reference Ni-rich NiTi should be read as Ti-rich NiTi. This will not alter any of the results or discussions or conclusions.” The authors would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused to the readers of the journal.
